The variety of these programmes includes topics such as architecture, civil engineering, hydro-construction, water supply and sewage, geodesy, transport construction, etc.
The strictly technical part of the education is not the only one that is forms the process. Every future engineer, architect or geodesist can learn how to manage major international projects and construction sites based on the principle of ecological sustainability and without harm to the environment. What is more, the future specialists are prepared to go beyond the purely technical side of the work. They also study how to deal with the financial and economic sides of a project, how to manage the people on site and the materials and equipment that are part of it. That is why, every programme covers topics such as micro- and macro-economy, business administration, legal basis of engineering, etc.
Every specialist in the field of construction will have to work with people from different cultures, with different backgrounds, speaking different languages. The UACEG takes these future possibilities very seriously and, in addition to the technical, economic and legal dimensions of the educational programmes, there is a social one. The students are offered a variety of courses in languages, philosophy and psychology as well as many international exchange programmes and European-funded ones.
It is not all work and no play. The sports facilities of the UACEG are of great quality, allowing students to practice different sports such as football, basketball, swimming, aerobics, etc. You can even join a team and take part in national and international university tournaments.
If you want to be part of an organization that protects the rights of the students or networking is very important for your future, you can join the students` council which is part of wider, European and international organizations such as IACES (International Association of Civil Engineering Students), IGSM (International Geodetic Student Meeting) and AEGEE (European Students` Forum).
All these goals aim to give the highest quality education that you can possibly get. It depends on the lecturers as well as the facilities the university has to offer.
The university has more than 500 lecturers and PhD students in all programmes. Part of them are foreigners, a guarantee for the international environment the UACEG tries to create to the benefit of its students. All lecturers participate in different projects on national, regional and international level which diversifies the theoretical part of the education with the practical dimension of local and international experience.
Moreover, with bigger projects, students and PhDs can have the opportunity to take part in and gain valuable experience. In addition, the lecturers are also members of different organizations in their line of work.
In order to help the students and the teaching body to gain and share experience, a few centers are created.
Research and Design Center
This is one of the main centers within the University. It allows students to work with high-tech calculation, computer and graphic machines and the necessary software. Excellent specialists and researchers work in this center as well as the lecturers and PhD students. They form different teams to solve different problems or work on a variety of projects, both practical and scientific, in a variety of areas – construction, architecture, geodesy, hydromechanics, etc. Other areas of work may include the preparation of pre-tender and tender research and analysis, environmental research and analysis such as environmental impact assessment for example, risk assessment, different experiments, etc.
E- and Post-graduate Training Center
This center concentrates its work mainly on training courses for graduate students and specialists from different construction companies and architectural offices on the practical side of certain scientific or technical problems and their possible solutions.
International and Mobility Center
This is the most important part of the UACEG and its international exposure. In addition to the international exchange programmes administered here, the participation and membership in international organizations such as AESOP (Association of European Schools of Planning), CIB (International Council for Research and Innovation in Building and Construction) and numerous other European and international associations is also part of the activities of the center.
It further develops bilateral cooperation with universities all over Europe and provides information to students and lecturers on trainings abroad, different seminars and conferences with international exposure.
University Library
The library of UACEG has one of the most up-to-date automated library systems in Bulgaria. It provides the scientific, research and educational assistance and materials the students and lecturers may need. It is also a member of different national and international associations thus helping the exchange of information resources between different libraries and universities` database.
This programme has duration of eleven semesters or five years and a half. The last semester is for the preparation and defense of the master thesis. The first eight semesters are dedicated to the basic topics of architecture such as design of different types of buildings, new technologies, political and legal dimensions of the design of buildings taking into consideration the cultural and historical characteristics as well as the heritage that exists within the cities, environmental considerations, etc.
Semesters nine and ten are dedicated to profiled training in one of the following fields: residential buildings; public buildings; industrial and agrarian buildings; urbanism; interior and architectural design; protection of architectural heritage; architecture constructions and details.
Based on the best national, European and international standards, this programme guarantees the excellent preparation and future realization of its students.
The UACEG is the only university that offers such a programme in Bulgaria. The lecturers are some of the best specialists nation-wide. It also offers lectures and seminars by international professionals from this field.
The programmme prepares future professionals in both private and public sector in areas such as urban management and development; sustainable urban construction with regard to the environmental aspect; strategic urban planning; landscape planning and protection of the environment; consultants for legislation preparation and amendments, etc.
The future will see a great increase in the demand for such specialists and that is why the programme is in accordance with the best practices and international regulations in this particular field. Due to the interdisciplinary character of urbanism, the university included a variety of disciplines in close relation to the urban development and smart-cities concept.
This is one of the most recent additions of the UACEG. The programme exists since 2017 and is created on the basis of its interdisciplinary character and up-to-date demand. It encompasses topics such as biology, climatology, sociology, psychology together with the purely technical disciplines. The programme is based on the principle for sustainable urban and rural development and in accordance with the protection of our environment that guarantees the healthy conditions of our existence.
Landscape architects in this programme will have the opportunity to work on every stage of the planning and implementation process for change of the landscape in urban and/or rural environment.
The programme is offered in Bulgarian and in English language with over 1100 students from both Bulgaria and abroad. The Construction Faculty is the first one in this university and boasts rich history and traditions. It prepares the best civil engineers that find work easily both at home and abroad and are valuable specialists on construction sites and in design bureaus as well as consultants for preparation of documents and analyses during different phases of project development and implementation.
This is the second oldest programme at this university with traditions and highly-valued reputation. The specialists that graduate with title Engineer in geodesy, cartography and cadaster find work easily in Bulgaria and abroad and are trained in variety of disciplines that allow them to work in all sectors of construction as well as in other industries that need such specialists.
The UACEG offers a variety of programmes to its local and international students such as transport construction in the field of roads and railways; water supply and sewage; hydro-technical construction; hydro-melioration construction] traffic management; ecological engineering; construction management, etc.
Whether you want to work as a professional engineer, architect or you would like to continue as a researcher, the UACEG offers plenty of opportunities. It has excellent PhD programmes with professors that can give valuable advice and guidelines to your scientific career. In addition, the international cooperation of the university with other ones from all over Europe provides the exact environment for a zealous researcher to gain experience from different places and different scientists, to broaden not only their scientific but also their personal horizon.
There is an acting Career Center within the UACEG, which provides information regarding different traineeships, scholarship programmes and job listings that may be of interest to the students as well as competitions in the field of architecture and engineering.
In addition to this, the Center consults on Curriculum Vitae and Cover letter writing, how to behave and what to say during interview, etc.
In your future job, you will have to work with certain software that is often expensive or not easily available. In addition to the IT center described above where the material and technical equipment is of excellent quality, the university also offers its students different products that can be downloaded directly from the producers` Internet sites in their students` version. Examples of these are the software products of Nemetchek, SOFiSTiK and SAP2000 programme, etc.
